NDGA Events

Kerang Golf Club had some wonderful results over the past week, winning several events against the more fancied Murray Downs and Barham Golf Clubs.

At the NDGA Grass Green Championships held at Barham last Sunday, Andrew Spitty won the Men’s Championship after a playoff against Stuart McMillan from Murray Downs. Both players finished their round with two over par 75’s. Both players bogied the first playoff hole held on the ninth and was eventually decided on the par 3 tenth hole after McMillan conceded. In the Ladies, current Club Champion Jan Harry won the A Grade Handicap event and while she might not be happy with her winning score, it was a terrific effort considering the poor weather conditions experienced by the players throughout their round.

After winning the NDGA ‘Vets’ Sand Scrapes Championship at Lakeside Golf Club earlier this year, Gary Thorne claimed the NDGA ‘Vets’ Grass Greens Championship title which was held at Cohuna Golf Club on Tuesday. Ken Williams and John Murphy also had success in their graded events.

Saturday Golf

In the Ladies Event, junior sensation Olive Spitty (14) won with a net 70.

Thursday Golf

Don Ross (11) finally showed the winning form that secured three Club Championships on Thursday 5 September to win the Stableford event with an outstanding 42 points - even more impressive considering he failed to score on the par 3 ninth hole.

In second place, also scoring 42 points, was Gary Pay (17) who was very solid during the middle section of his round and only struggled on the par 4 fourth hole with a double bogy. Graham Wyte (14) was his usual steady self, claiming third place on count-back with 38 points over Lachlan Gillies (29).
