Saturday Golf

Cold gusty wind made the course a nightmare for players as Peter Jones (16) and Michelle Dillon (10) each won their respective events in terrible conditions last Saturday.

A magical Eagle by Jarrad Walker (12) on the seventh hole was the only major highlight as big hitting Walker used the left to right wind perfectly, driving the seventh green and nailing the six-foot putt for a two at the par 4 hole.

In the Men’s event, Jones held tough, fighting all the way, scoring on every hole as he scrapped in ahead of Allan Free (20) on count-back to win the Greenwood Mugge. Both players finished with 35 points. Free who struggled early in his round, rebounded after a miss on the par 4 twelfth, but was unable to make up the difference over the final holes.

In the Ladies event, Dillon failed to score on three holes but did enough in the middle half of her round to score 28 points and win the Silver Goblet over Rosie Laughlin (38) who had five misses for 27 points.

John Murphy completed the ball pool.

Nearest to the pins: Popeye (3rd), Michelle Dillon (5th), Tony Laughlin (9th), Popeye - Superpin (13th), Popeye (16th). The best round of the day was a sixteen over par 87 by Gary Thorne. Paul Goodson won the pen.

This Saturday’s event is Stableford.

Thursday Golf

Brendan Shields (12) made the most of a tough day out on the course, winning the Thursday stableford competition with a handicap round of 36 points despite a miss on the par 4 forth hole. Ken Williams (22) secured second place with 34 points ahead of Don Ross (10) on count-back who will rue his non scoring holes on six and nine.

The best round of the day was a ten over par 81 by Gary Thorne.

Nearest to the pins Don Ross (3rd), N/C (5th), Gary Thorne (9th), Allan Free (13th), Tony Laughlin (16th). Denis Bacon won the pen.

Please Note: Thursday golf is open to all golfers. Registration from 12noon. Tee-off 12.45pm.

Ladies Report

A beautiful sunny day greeted eight ladies for their Monthly Medal event on Wednesday. Although Michelle Dillon (10) won with a net 73, Rhonda Willoughby (25) and Joyce Boyd (24) chased her all the way, with Willoughby finishing with a net 74 and Boyd a net 75.

Dillon won the Chinos voucher with nearest the pin on the 9th hole and also had the least putts in the round (27). Meryl Cameron won the pen.
